(I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I really hope it's not :( )
Hello everyone,
Last November my labrador named Haven passed away. We had 'rescued' (we got her from my fathers co-worker and later learned she had been neglected most of her life). We couldn't entirely figure out how old she really was, but we did know that she had epilepsy and needed phenobarbital for her.
This is a picture of when we first got her:

This is the last picture taken of her, October 31st, 2014. She passed away the next morning:

You can see the difference between her white face from December 2008 to October 2014.
After her 4 months of passing my depression and anxiety has worsened. I had planned to register Haven as my ESA since I was a lot better around her but she had passed away before I could even get paperwork started. The last 4 months have been extremely depressing without my dog but I feel it's time for a new dog to come into my life. That's why I'm here.
I've been interested in Shiba Inus since I was a kid and have wanted one for the longest time. I was previously considering one a few months back while Haven was still alive, but then the Doge meme became a thing and I didn't think it was a good time to get one. I've done my research but I still have questions that I feel I'd get better answers here.
I've been extremely interested in training dogs for agility, a family friend of ours actually does this and offered to teach myself and my next dog the basics of agility and other things. I've read that Shibas would be good for agility. While any dog realistically can do agility, would it be good for a Shiba Inu? I've been told and read at some places that Shibas have lots of energy and need lots of exercise to control the energy.
I'll be moving into my own place soon, we're currently unsure if we're going to buy or rent this place (which does allow pets). It is fenced in but I've read that Shibas will dig or jump fences to get out and that fences that are in ground and have somewhat of an angle discourage the dog from digging/jumping. Should we look into replacing the fence to accommodate this? I'm sure the landlord (if we rent) wouldn't mind getting a new fence anyways, it's just an old chain link one.
I have been considering adopting as one of my options. I am still considering adopting a Shiba, but I have also been heavily looking into purchasing a puppy from a breeder. I've stuck to NSCA in terms of finding breeders simply because I live in the Chicago area and the midwest is major puppy mill territory. I've even found a couple of byb/puppy mills on my search and now know to stay away from them. In terms of recommendation, I am considering Hi-Jinx Shiba Inu, Kokuryuu Shibas and Kimi Ki Shibas. Does anyone have experience with the ones I have listed?
And lastly, what is it like owning a Shiba for you?
Thank you all for your time and help answering my questions, I've probably forgotten some at the moment but if I think of them I'll be sure to ask :)
